Maritime Transport Ltd (Maritime) are the largest privately owned transport company in the UK. They are an asset-strong, cash-rich company with a strong sense of re-investment and this has, without doubt, contributed to their success within the industry throughout their 16-year history. Maritime was acquired in September 2001 by their current owner, John Williams. At this time the company had a fleet of 136 trucks and a network consisting of five depots with their headquarters in Thamesport. Over the following years the business has grown into one of the largest transport providers in the UK after a policy of investment, acquisition and expansion, all whilst navigating their way through some of the worst economic times in recent history as well as a number of challenges and changes faced by the entire industry. In 2010, Maritime made their first acquisition – DHL Container Logistics – and their second – Roadways Container Logistics – closely followed in 2014. Both purchases gave the company larger, more permanent homes in strategic locations and allowed Maritime to diversify into other areas of business, including distribution, warehousing and rail. In addition to a number of carefully planned acquisitions, which included Alconbury Truckstop in 2016, Maritime have experienced major organic growth and now have a network of 27 depots, including a presence at all of the major ports and rail hubs, as well as a number of strategic inland locations. 2011 saw the business begin operations in the domestic distribution sector in addition to various other transport-related services such as rail, warehousing, off-dock laden and empty storage, container repairs and freight management, giving the business an edge over a number of their competitors and allowing them to offer a complete transport solution. With over 1,600 Maritime-operated vehicles on our roads in any 24-hour period, Maritime are making significant contributions to the industry, offering the highest levels of service to their customers, training and development to their staff and by taking their environmental and ethical policies very seriously. As such, all of their vehicles are specified to the highest standards and comply with the Euro 5 or Euro 6 standard. In fact, 85% of their fleet are Euro 6 with the remainder Euro 5, giving them the cleanest large fleet on the road. An impressive fleet uptime of 99.2% is achieved and all vehicles and trailers are serviced and MOT’d regularly to ensure the highest levels of compliance are maintained. Maritime run dedicated vehicle fleets for some of the world’s largest shipping lines, forwarders and retailers and their customer base within the logistics industry continues to grow as they support a whole host of businesses with their ever-growing portfolio of services. They have been successful in winning awards from a number of their blue-chip customers and were also named Road Freight Operator of the Year for two consecutive years (2016 and 2017) at the popular Multimodal Awards. Maritime’s story of success speaks for itself and as they continue to lead the way with innovation, their future is sure to be as exciting as their past as they prove to be a sure solution to your transport needs.
