Maritime expanding their fleet and new business wins…

You may remember our Move it Like…. feature in the April edition that featured John Williams of Maritime Transport. Since this edition Maritime have continued to see the growth and expansion that John talked about through expanding their fleet and new business wins.

Expanding their fleet

To ensure they’re able to meet their customers’ needs, Maritime actively manage their fleet and since April they’ve been busy!

They’ve reignited a partnership with Mercedes Benz and taken delivery of 65 new tractor units, all equipped with their Big Space cabs which offer their drivers nearly 2 metres of headroom.

The first of the new vehicles started to arrive just weeks after Maritime announced they had purchased 30 units from Volvo as part of their continued fleet expansion. Along with the new vehicle purchases, Maritime have also ordered 100 new Curtain Siders from Lawrence David and 200 new Sliding Skeletal Trailers from Dennison. The continued expansion takes Maritime’s fleet to over 1,000 trucks and 2,100 trailers.

New business wins

The growth in their fleet is down to new business opportunities and Maritime have recently won contracts to work with two major players in the retail sector. Firstly, a contract with La Doria Heinz helping to supply a range of products to the UK’s largest supermarkets.

Paul Nicholas, Logistics Director at LDH said of the contract being awarded to Maritime

“We were impressed with the infrastructure that Maritime could offer us. Our long-term association with Felixstowe is one that Maritime reinforces, and their network of depots at key points up and down the country is one that we look forward to utilising in the future.”

Maritime are also now working with Oak Furniture Land. From humble beginnings, the retailer has come a long way since their inception a decade ago and have grown rapidly into a market-leader and household name.

Maritime’s Tom Williams, General Manager – Commercial said of the contract. “Oak Furniture Land has chartered outstanding growth over the last 10 years and the growth of their distribution centre in St Helens is another exciting chapter in their history. Maritime’s network of depots across the UK will create great synergies with their business and we are very optimistic about supporting their future growth.

On top of all of that, at this year’s Multimodal, Maritime were named Road Haulier of the Year 2016. It’s been a busy few months for Maritime and the future looks promising for this growing business.
