Dunmow-based Containerlift has recently been awarded a prestigious award by the Ministry of Defence due to their commitment to ‘The Defence Employment Recognition Scheme’, introduced by the Government in 2014. The scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same, with Containerlift being awarded a Bronze Award, having demonstrated their support to the defence and the armed forces community.
Containerlift, a lifting and shipping company, currently employs a number of ex-forces personnel. Joost Baker, Containerlift’s Managing Director, explains…
At least 20% of our drivers are ex forces, who often enter the industry with little or no experience of civilian employment, but we believe they are worth the time and investment. Last year we visited a squadron to deliver driver training and on the back of this we employed a driver. He had very little road experience driving an articulated vehicle so with a bit of training he now has a successful career within the industry. We actively recruit from HM Forces, recognising the importance of our Reserve Forces and the significant contribution they make to the company and our clients.
Military trained personnel are fit, focused and positive with a can-do attitude. Many operate in locations and situations that require sound judgement, adaptability, respect for others, good communication, skills, loyalty and courage. Who wouldn’t employ them! We are delighted to receive the Bronze Award and we look forward to supporting the scheme as we aim for Silver.
