World-renowned climber, Sophie Lavaud, is being supported in her adventurous endeavours for the second time by time-critical logistics specialist, Priority Freight. United by their shared belief to ‘go above and beyond’, Priority Freight is assisting Sophie with a fresh challenge for 2024 – to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents.

On 25 December 2023, Sophie will be one of the lucky few to have a white Christmas as she begins her journey to Antarctica, to ascend Vinson Massif. Located 1,200 kilometres from the South Pole, Vinson Massif will take Sophie 4,892 metres above sea level. Depending on weather conditions, she does not yet know how long the expedition will take; one thing is for sure, the temperature will be sub-zero, putting her physical and mental resilience to the test.

“There are some natural synergies in how we and Sophie take on any new challenge; we always go above and beyond,” said Stuart Stobie, Chief Commercial Officer at Priority Freight. “Our team believes that no challenge is too great and, much like Sophie’s team, we are prepared with the resources and expertise to overcome any obstacle.”

Sophie started climbing mountains over 20 years ago and, over the past decade, she has focused her energies on Himalayan mountaineering and public speaking. She climbed her first 8000 m peak, Cho Oyu in 2012 and Everest in 2014, followed by Gasherbrum II (2015), Makalu (2016), Broad Peak (2017). In 2018, she became the first Swiss woman to reach the summit of K2. She then continues her challenge by climbing Annapurna I (2019), Kangchenjunga (2019), Gasherbrum I (2019), Dhaulagiri (2021), Lhotse and Manaslu (2022). At the turn of 2023, she conquered Shishapangma, updating her nickname to the ‘104,000 lady’ in recognition of the meters of elevation climbed.

During the summer of 2023, Priority Freight supported Sophie in reaching the 8,126-metre summit of Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, the final summit in her 14-mountain challenge. The climb took Sophie and her team around two months to complete.
