Dumbarton-based haulier Galt Transport has acquired four new Scania R-series trucks, two of which feature the firm’s longest reaching lorry mounted cranes.  The new additions will include two artic R490 and two rigid R450 units, all equipped with Palfinger cranes.  The two rigid units will add unique lifting abilities to the firm’s already diverse fleet of trucks and trailers.

The two 8×2 rigid vehicles with PK65002-E cranes will feature a hoist attachment with the capacity to lift 3.2 tonnes to a distance of 16.6m.  What sets these units apart is the addition of a fly jib which, when attached to either unit, can lift up to 0.8 tonnes to a distance of 28m.  This also makes this weight/distance achievable at a distance of 12m from crane centre with the ability to lower the load straight down to ground level with the hoist.

Andrew Galt, Operations Director commented ‘These new eight wheelers combine durability with payload capacity.  The fly jib not only gives the vehicle a greater working radius but also gives the crane further articulation allowing items to be lifted onto roofs more easily.  The hoist will allow items to be lowered straight down which is also an advantage of this crane specification.’

The units have an additional stabiliser installed at the front of the vehicle, giving greater support to the crane when operating over the front of the cab when the fly jib is in operation.  These new additions, along with the two new artics bring the total number of vehicle mounted cranes in Galt’s fleet to 28 from an overall fleet of 60 trucks and over 100 trailers.

Andrew Galt added ‘We’re always looking for ways to extend the capabilities of our fleet.  These new additions are now our longest reach cranes, which extends our offering of flexible loading and delivery options to our customers’.

Supplied by Scania Truck and Bus Renfrew, the new additions also include two new Scania R490s with Palfinger PK 78000-D cranes which are standard additions to the company’s young and varied fleet.  The firm specialises in lorry mounted crane hire, abnormal loads, container handling, dangerous loads and driver training.
