When The Grazing Shed decided to hit the road with its award-winning range of burgers, only one van stacked up – a ‘Super Tidy’ Sprinter from Mercedes-Benz Dealer Euro Commercials.

The Grazing Shed began life in 2013, after Duncan Black and three like-minded colleagues teamed up to launch their first restaurant in Cardiff. So successful did it prove that within a couple of years they were opening a second, on the other side of the city.

Voted the Number One Burger Joint in Wales at the British Burger Awards 2016, The Grazing Shed’s unique and delicious Super Tidy Burgers are “made from the heart”, says Duncan, using only the finest cuts of locally sourced beef, freshly baked artisanal bread, and innovative home-made sauces and chutneys.

Now the firm which set out to prove that fast food can also be great food has embarked on a new phase in its development, by introducing its first burger van. Duncan explained: “We’d been setting up to sell our burgers at festivals and events since 2014, but realised that it would make life a lot easier in terms of speed and flexibility if we did so from a van.”

Appropriately, given the gourmet-quality of its burgers, the vehicle bears the famous three-pointed star. “I purchased a Mercedes-Benz Vito Dualiner from Euro Commercials shortly after we started the business for use as a general runaround,” said Duncan. “It’s been fantastic, as has the Dealer’s aftercare. This experience, coupled with the manufacturer’s premium brand image, meant we were always going to choose another Mercedes-Benz.”

He continued: “We can be doing anything up to 200 burgers an hour at a festival. As well as grills big enough to cook the food in these high volumes, we also needed a walk-in fridge with sufficient capacity for all of the burgers and accompaniments we might need for a full day.”

The solution was a 3.5-tonne Sprinter 313 CDI chassis cab with purpose-designed body built by Commercial Truck Bodies, of Cardiff, and Carrier refrigeration unit. The subject of a flexible, low-cost Agility funding package from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, it came with a lengthy list of optional extras, including air-conditioning, a satellite navigation system, light and rain sensors, and electrically-adjustable door mirrors.

The fuel-efficient vehicle has opened the door to many new opportunities to meet and serve the public, for example at corporate events, parties and even weddings. Manned by up to six members of The Grazing Shed team, it has also fed supporters outside Cardiff City FC’s ground, and the crowds which have descended on the popular Barry Island resort on sunny days.

A real eye-catcher in its metallic black paintwork and striking graphics, the Sprinter came equipped as standard with an unrivalled complement of safety features and will be maintained by Euro Commercials under a Mercedes-Benz Service Plan.

“This vehicle has added an exciting additional dimension to our business. It looks fantastic, but also offers the reliability that will be essential to the success of this new venture,” concluded Duncan.

“The Dealer and bodybuilder were both brilliant from start to finish. Euro’s Van Sales Manager Paul Cox and his colleagues arranged for the cost of the body to be incorporated within the finance package, so we only pay a single monthly fee which also includes an element to cover maintenance. Administratively, it couldn’t be simpler.”
