Created at the request of the international breakbulk industry, Antwerp XL fills over 60% of the floor plan in the first 3 weeks.
The inaugural Antwerp XL conference & exhibition will be held in the heart of the European breakbulk industry, Antwerp, on 7-9 May 2019, Antwerp Expo Centre.
Designed specifically for the breakbulk community and with backing from many key players including Host Sponsor, the Port of Antwerp, Antwerp XL is set to be the ultimate event for the breakbulk sector and is already attracting global interest from across the industry.
The three-day conference and exhibition provides an ideal platform for cargo owners and specialised transportation professionals from across the globe to meet, conduct business, learn and network. There will also be further networking functions in the evenings across the week, allowing the industry to interact in a less formal business environment.
Antwerp has been at the heart of breakbulk since 1120. It boasts 15 terminals specializing in breakbulk, over 200 sailings per month and an annual breakbulk volume of 15 million tons.
‘Breakbulk goods from all over the world feel at home in the Port of Antwerp,’ explains Ann De Smet, the Port’s Business Development Manager. ‘The Port benefits from efficient (un)loading and a longstanding expertise in handling breakbulk cargo. Whether it’s steel, project cargo, fruit, forest products or cars, they are all handled with the greatest care.’
Antwerp is situated in a prime location in Europe with good trimodal connectivity – barge, rail and truck. The Port boasts a dense network of regular breakbulk sailings and importantly, all the major breakbulk carriers have a presence.
‘We are delighted to have a breakbulk exhibition and conference back in the home of breakbulk – the Port of Antwerp,’ adds Arthur Mahieu, Owner of heavy lift specialist Rollit Cargo NV.
The event is also fully supported by the Antwerp Shipping Federation. ‘The Port of Antwerp is in Europe the biggest breakbulk port and the biggest steel port. It is therefore logical to have a breakbulk conference in Antwerp,’ explains Philippe Oyen, Chairman of the Antwerp Shipping Federation (ASV) & CEO of Belgo-Iberian Maritime.
Explaining the reasons for the launch of the event: Nick Powell, Divisional Director, Antwerp XL said: ‘Many key players in the industry approached Easyfairs, owner of Antwerp Expo Centre, asking for a breakbulk event in Antwerp. As a top 20 global exhibition organizer, with extensive experience and focus in maritime, transport and logistics & energy, we knew we could serve this flourishing community with a world-class exhibition & conference.’
‘To have the commitment of so many top-level companies so early has been incredible and selling 60% of the floor plan in the first 3 weeks has surpassed even our original expectations.’
‘We are very much looking forward to working with the industry to grow Antwerp XL into the industry’s key meeting place, bringing the global breakbulk community together.’
Antwerp XL is organised by Easyfairs, one of the world’s fastest growing exhibition organisers. Headquartered in Brussels, Easyfairs has extensive experience within the manufacturing, oil & gas, cargo, maritime, transport & logistics industries and runs over 220 exhibitions worldwide.
