Qatar Airways Cargo presented a memento of appreciation to the Executive Director of AL SHAQAB (a member of Qatar Foundation), Mr. Khalifa Al Attiya, today in the presence of both organisations’ senior leadership and media. The gesture highlighted the growing business and long-term collaboration in equine transportation between the two organisations.

Qatar Airways Cargo has been transporting horses for AL SHAQAB since 2012. To date, the cargo carrier has flown more than 700 horses for AL SHAQAB. The airline transports more than 100 champion horses every year for their annual CHI AL SHAQAB event. This is the only Concours Hippique International competition of its kind in the Middle East and Asia to be sanctioned by the FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale or International Equestrian Federation) and one of only four CHI equestrian events in the world, featuring the Olympic disciplines of Show Jumping, Dressage and Para-Dressage. Among the horses transported are Olympic and other world-class tournament winners.
The cargo carrier also transports horses for the Longines Global Championship Tour held at AL SHAQAB every year, and will be transporting 100 horses this November for the grand finale of the Championship tour.
Qatar Airways Cargo offers a modern fleet of Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Boeing 747 freighters with controlled temperature zones, a network of more than 150 destinations, comfortable and spacious horse stalls and seats for grooms on board the freighters. Its state-of-the-art, live animal facility in Doha offers a temperature-controlled environment with air conditioned holding stalls, a paddock and on-site veterinary personnel.
The cargo carrier has a wealth of experience in the transportation of animals around the world and provides scheduled as well as charter services for live animal transportation, including pets, falcons, tropical fish, cattle, day-old chicks and exotic animals for zoo exchange, conservation and breeding projects. Its animal handling processes are fully compliant with IATA’s Live Animals Regulations and the rules and regulations set out by local and global authorities on live animal transport.
